Us CPSC Released Third Party Assessment Framework For Children'S Carpets

In June 10, 2010, CPSC released a draft of the third party conformity assessment accreditation requirements (Youth PDF and rugs) (PDF) to solicit public views. The carpet regulations correspond to 16 CFR 1630 and 1631, respectively, which specify the flammability requirements of carpets and rugs. The rug is defined as a unidirectional dimension less than 1.83 m (6 ft.) and a surface area less than 2.23 M2 (24 ft.2).

Generally speaking, carpets are provided to the general public, but there are a small number of products designed specifically for children under 12 years of age. They are required to be tested by the third party conformity assessment agencies only after 90 days of the formal approval of the certification requirements before they can be put on the market.

The requirements of these two regulations for flammability are the same. It is required that the size of the holes in the burnt portion of at least 7 samples in the 8 given samples is within 2.54 cm (1 in) range before the carpet is qualified. Each carpet with a length of 22860 m should have an experimental report. An additional report should be provided for every 45720 m increase in length. If the carpet has been treated with flame retardant or flame retardant fibers, the "T" should be marked on the carpet.

The accreditation requirements for the third party conformity assessment bodies of carpet are basically the same as those issued by CPSC before, but the range of testing required is different.
