Due to the shortage of domestic raw materials, the Indonesian tanning association is looking for suppliers of goat skins and sheepskin.

AgitPuntoYuwono, the Secretary General of the association, said they are looking for raw materials in at least nine countries, including Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Yemen, Iran, Kuwait, Turkey, Somalia, Kenya and Nigeria.

Agit said Indonesia is also facing insufficient supply of yellowhide and buffalo skins. The tanning association is planning to import raw and salted skins from Brazil, Uruguay and Paraguay.

Agit added that they also hope to find suppliers from Southeast Asian countries such as Burma and Philippines.

Senjaya, chairman of tannery Merchants Association, said the leather industry in Indonesia has been developing slowly due to the reduction of livestock slaughtering and the lack of leather supply.
